Dr Ainkharan Ayngkaran has been one of the principal practitioners at Oberon Medical Centre since 2016.
He completed his MBBS in 2003 and was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2016. He went on to complete a second fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP), as well as a fellowship as a Rural Generalist (FRACGP-RG) with specialised expertise in Emergency Medicine and Small-Town Rural General Practice.
Dr Ayngkaran holds a Diploma in Skin Cancer Surgery and an Advanced Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine. With a meticulous approach to minor skin cancer procedures, he has developed highly specialised skills to meet the skin cancer care needs of the Oberon community. He also holds a Diploma in Child Health (DCH) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Ultrasound.
He practises across all areas of General Practice, with special interests in: Men’s Health,
Chronic Disease Management, Emergency Medicine, Palliative Care, Skin Cancer Management, Minor Surgical Procedures
Dr Ayngkaran began his career as a Critical Care Doctor and part-time General Practitioner in Sri Lanka. After relocating to Australia, he worked in Emergency Departments at Liverpool, Campbelltown, and Camden Hospitals. In 2013, he moved to Oberon, attracted by the rural lifestyle and the opportunity to serve a close-knit regional community.
He is passionate about clinical education and is a GP registrar supervisor, guiding and mentoring future General Practitioners. He also contributes to medical education as a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at both Charles Sturt University – School of Rural Medicine and The University of Notre Dame.
Outside of his professional work, Dr Ayngkaran enjoys shooting, horse riding, and motorbike riding. He is a devoted father to two children, whom he shares with his wife, Dr Sivakamy Ayngkaran.
