It is best practice for medications to be prescribed during a consultation.
Repeat prescriptions may be issued without consultation if you’ve seen your doctor within the past 3–6 months.
Please allow 4 working days’ notice.
Some medications (e.g. antibiotics) cannot be prescribed without an appointment.
Some doctors may provide repeat contraceptive pill prescriptions only if pap smears are up to date.
Continual referrals can only be requested during the consultation with your doctor.
All referrals must be written before you see the specialist. It is illegal for any doctor to write a referral after the specialist has seen you.
Medicare legislation requires a valid GP referral to see a specialist. Referrals are typically valid for 12 months but can be extended depending on your ongoing care needs. If your visit is just for a referral, please notify reception. This may only require a short consultation.
